Petrol vs Electric Scooter: The Real Monthly Cost per Delivery Rider in Delhi

Fuel is the biggest variable cost in a delivery fleet, and it is the one that moves the most when petrol prices go up. Before deciding on EVs, it helps to know exactly what petrol is costing you per rider.

Step 1: Fuel

The formula is simple: kilometres per month ÷ mileage × petrol price.

Take a typical Delhi NCR delivery rider doing 100 km a day for 26 days a month, on a scooter that returns 45 km per litre. That is 2,600 km a month, or about 58 litres. At around ₹95 a litre, fuel alone comes to roughly ₹5,500 a month. Check today's price for your city, because it changes.

Step 2: Servicing and repairs

Petrol scooters doing delivery mileage need oil changes, clutch and chain work, brake pads and tyres far more often than a commuter's scooter. Budget ₹600 to ₹1,000 a month per scooter, based on your own garage bills.

Step 3: Vehicle cost

If riders rent petrol bikes from you or pay an EMI, add that. If riders own their bikes, the cost still exists. It shows up in the payout they expect.

Putting it together

Per rider, per monthExample
Fuel (2,600 km at 45 km/l, ₹95/l)≈ ₹5,490
Servicing & repairs≈ ₹800
Rent / EMIYour figure
Total before vehicle cost≈ ₹6,290

Multiply that across 50 riders and you are spending over ₹3 lakh a month just on fuel and servicing.

The electric side

For an electric scooter on a dry lease, the monthly cost per rider is the scooter rent, plus the battery swap subscription, plus your servicing, which is lower than petrol because EVs have far fewer moving parts. If that total is below the petrol figure above, every rider you move to electric saves money from day one.
